FIA International Formula 3000 Championship - Nurburgring
Alex Muller made his debut with the European Minardi team this
weekend and qualified in 15th place. Giorgio Pantano, who led the
championship prior to the last round at Monaco had an encouraging
qualifying session and started sixth.
A potential third position finish for was in sight early on as
Giorgio had a good fight with Antonio Pizzonia. Unfortunately he
was caught out by the kerbs at the Veedol chicane and spun to 11th.
Giorgio also had brake problems by this time and a collision with
Zsolst Baumgartner, who had held Giorgio up, added insult to injury.
Alex Muller failed to finish after gearbox problems.
Giorgio Pantano remains third in the Championship. Brask Management
boss Lars-Christian Brask commented that the season is still at
the half way stage and there are still 60 points to race for!
