Sixth then nothing for Alex...

26 May 2002

FIA International Formula 3000 Championship - Monaco

Alex Müller bagged his first ever FIA International Formula 3000 Championship point after an enthralling battle with Ricardo Mauricio. After the race however Alex had the result taken away from him after an enquiry into the incident which ended with Mauricio's retirement from the race on the final lap.

Both Alex and joint championship leader Giorgio Pantano were out of luck on the crowded circuit in Friday's qualifying. Giorgio was 9th in the first session with Alex right behind in 10th. Giorgio was 11th in the second session with Alex 15th. The combined times put Giorgio 13th on the grid with Alex down in 16th for Saturday's race.

Giorgio, desperate to make up places in the early stages, crashed out of the race at the Rascasse on the third lap.

Top six: 1st Bourdais, 2nd Friesacher, 3rd Enge, 4th Pizzonia, 5th Ri Sperafico, 6th Haberfeld.

Danish Touring Car Championship - Ring Djursland

The team all worked well together in qualifying with 14th, 15th and 16th for Thorkild Thyrring, Gunnar Kristensen and Carsten Leveau respectively. Gunnar improved his position in the sprint race to finish 14th whilst Carsten and Thorkild both had problems finishing 17th and 18th. The feature race saw Gunnar retire before a lap had been completed although Thorkild took 12th place with Carsten right behind in 13th. Thorkild is the best placed of our drivers in the championship (15th) with Gunnar 16th and Carsten 18th.

British Formula Three Championship - Croft

Jesper Carlsen was back in action at the weekend. Jesper was 8th in first qualifying and 7th in the second session. In the first race he retired after five laps of the Yorkshire circuit. Details from race two are awaited.
