FIA International Formula 3000 Championship - Round two at Imola

Qualifying

Giorgio wowed his home fans with the third fastest time in the first qualifying session. Alex being 10th quickest. The second session was also held in the wet and Giorgio was quickest in this although the slower times meant his earlier time counted to the grid and he started Saturday's race from third place. Alex qualified 12th.

Race:

Wheelspin at the start saw Giorgio down in sixth place at the first corner but his comeback to third position was one of the highlights of this year's series so far. Giorgio was involved in a race long battle with Antonio Pizzonia for third place, finally getting the better of the Brazilian on the last lap to take the final podium position and the fastest lap of the race.

Alex Müller again showed tremendous pace despite a bad start. Like Giogio he proved that he has the ability to overtake and climbed up the order into 8th place. Sadly his race ended with fuel pump failure.
