Jesper Carlsen went into the second round of
the championship at Donington Park last weekend as the Scholarship
class leader. Two excellent podium positions with the fledgling
Essencial Formula Three team in the first round proved the old cliche
"to finish first, first you have to finish".
Jesper was sixth fastest in Thursday's test session, Clivio Piccione
being the front runner in the proven Honda powered machine. Jesper's
2002 mount is the Essencial Motorsport Dallara powered by the as
yet unproven Toyota engine.
Qualifying
Jesper was disappointed with his performance in both qualifying
sessions although he found some improvement after set up changes
in the second session.
Round 3 - 8th - 1m05.300
Round 4 - 6th - 1m05.121
Races
Jesper raced well in the two events - moving up from 8th place
into fifth in the first race and from sixth to fifth in the second.
Jesper clearly had the handling sorted for the second race and had
the race been longer he would have almost certainly passed Karun
Chandhok to take fourth place. A brace of wins for Adam Carroll
saw him move into the lead of the Scholarship class with Jesper
now in second place.
