Giorgio Pantano and Alex Müller will be in action at Interlagos for this year's opening date on the FIA International Formula 3000 calendar.

Giorgio will be focused on putting the close season frustrations over his contract behind him as he forges a new working relationship with his Italian conuntrymen at Coloni Motorsport.

Alex has proved to one of the quickest and perhaps more importantly consistent drivers with his last two seasons where, like Giorgio, he has shone. Alex was runner up to Giorgio in the 2000 German Formula Three Championship and took third in last year's European Formula 3000 campaign.

Qualifying:

Giorgio was nudging the points positions in the first session as he posted the 7th quickest time but the second session saw the times tumble. He therefore qualified 10th with a time over eight tenths of a second shy of the pole benchmark set by Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais. Alex Müller was 13th fastest.

In the race Giorgio improved two places on his grid position to take 8th with Alex in 11th.
