Brask Management ace Giorgio Pantano has been awarded the prestigious
'Italian International Driver of the Year award' by leading Italian
magazine Autosprint. Giorgio, who wowed Italian fans with a sensational
Formula 3000 victory at Imola in September, was chosen for the award
ahead of Grand Prix aces Jarno Trulli and Giancarlo Fisichella.
Giorgio will receive his trophy at the Autpsprint Awards on 15th
December.
Formula 3000 testing commences again soon with a session at Barcelona
in Spain. Brask Management driver Alex Müller, who finished
third in the European Championship, will be having his first run
in the FIA sanctioned International version as he tests with Astromega.
Formula Renault testing
Fresh from two sensational podium finishes in his first two car
race dates, former kartist Mike Spencer jetted off to Germany with
Team Brask's Managing Director Alf Boarer last week for another
Formula Renault test. Alf reports that the session with Timo Rumpfkiel's
Motopark Academy was very successful. Mike soon got to grips with
the car and a damp Oschersleben circuit to post some very encouraging
times.
Karting - Team Brask Trophy
On Sunday November 18, the Team Brask trophy was awarded to two
talented drivers in the youth-club "Viadukten" in Roskilde, Denmark.
It was a club championship, - all 17 drivers were there, with high
hopes and expectations. The track was the newly built "Roskilde
Racing Center" which is built for bigger carts than the small 50cc
- so the concern was primarily wether ths engines would withstand
the high revs for extended periods of time, as they hurled down
the 160m long straight. A revcounter on initial trials showed 11,500
revs, - the flywheel is only certified for 10,000 - but it was decided
to run the risk, and see what happened. As it was, none of the karts
had any problems caused by the high revs or speeds, - the problems
that did occur, could (and would have) occurred on any other track!
The circuit was a little wet, so rain tyres were chosen by almost
all karts. Winners were found in all three classes, - and overall
two drivers stood out as very talented, - almost becoming part of
the kart, taking beautiful lines, and getting more out of the machine
than would normally be expected:
#4 Andreas Sylvan
Had a very contentrated run, - found great lines. Despite having
problems with chain and gearing he made his way up through the field
- to an excellent second place in class-1.
#12 - Morten Sorth
Is a veritable master of the wet - makes it look like a walk in
the park, - but still laps many seconds faster than the other carts.
Despite being in a 8hp 50cc powered cart, he was a real threat for
the new watercooled 13hp 50cc carts (!) In the second heat, his
steeringwheel broke loose, and he promptly stopped on the grass,
- so his start position in the final was relegated to the far back
- nevertheless he advanced from 15'th to 5'th in the first lap!
These two drivers both fully deserved getting their names on the
Team Brask trophy. All the drivers are looking forward to next year,
when they all have a chance to join Andreas & Morten's names on
the trophy.
The club were delighted with the support from Team Brask: "We
want to thank you for a wonderful trophy, which truely motivates
the kids to perform their utmost best, - and thought you might want
to have a look at some of the pictures from the event: http://www.klub-viadukten.dk."
"As a final note, - yes Morten Sorth is related to me (my
son), but I have had nothing to do with the selection of him for
the trophy. With the kindest regards, and best wishes Lennart Sorth
/ webmaster and photographer for klub-viadukten.dk "
