FIA International Formula 3000 Championship - A1 Ring (images here)

Giorgio was frustrated again in Austria. A first corner accident for the third time in four races meant that Giorgio had to pit for a new back wing. On track again he was three laps down but managed to finish 15th and in the process set the fastest lap. The accident happened when Friesacher and Bourdais collided and spun in front of Giorgio. With nowhere to go he was rammed heavily from the back by Mark Webber whilst also coming into contact with Mario Haberfeld. Qualifying had also shown promise though. Giorgio qualified 10th on the grid but only managed to complete eight laps before pitting due to an imbalance in the set up. Most cars were setting their qualifying times on their 12th/14th laps so Giorgio did not get a chance to get into the same rhythm. Once back on circuit he was half a second per lap quicker than anyone else but it started raining so 10th was his grid position.

Porsche Pirelli Supercup - A1 Ring

Jesper Carlsen was 15th on the grid for the Porsche race after posting just one fast lap due to a clutch problem which damaged the engine on a down change. After this Jesper was unable to get in a reasonable lap for qualifying. In the race Jesper recovered well to finish 15th after a skirmish with team mate Jamie Hunter which saw a brief visit to the gravel trap.
