FIA International Formula 3000 Championship
- Interlagos, Brazil
Giorgio
showed great speed in qualifying in only his 30th car race with
sixth place on the grid although he actually held pole for quite
a while during the session.
The start was a bit crowded and Giorgio had someone trip over his
front wing and the car's front steering arm was damaged. After that
the race became something of a test session - gaining time and experience
in the car and trying to overtake as many other drivers as possible.
Even with the damage Giorgio managed to get up to tenth from 25th
after the incident and was challenging Piccini for place on the
first corner of the last lap but the door was shut on him and a
trip to the gravel trap ensued.
On paper the results may not appear too impressive but team boss
Lars-Christian Brask tells us that: "The progress Giorgio made
in the race plus his fighting spirit has given us a lot of confidence
for the rest of the season".
Privilege Insurance British GT Championship - Silverstone
A disappointing weekend for Brask Management driver Jacky van
der Ende who partnered Shane Bland in the Eclipse Motorsport Marcos
Mantis GT2 car. Jacky's car was dogged with mechanical problems
throughout the weekend from Friday's test session to the race. A
power steering failure hit the team twice - once in testing and
then again in the first qualifying session on Saturday. The second
session went little better as the team suffered a broken diff. Despite
this the pairing qualified 11th in the GTO class and were the quickest
of the six Marcos Mantis on the grid. Engine problems early on in
the race put an end to the team's weekend and any hopes of kicking
off the season with a points score.
V-Sports Racing V8 - Brands Hatch
The new season started at Brands Hatch on Sunday. Christian
Dick took second place overall on his debut in the class. Miku Santavirta
and Barry Lee had a coming together and ended in the gravel during
the first race whilst fighting for second. Christian moved up into
the runner up slot at the flag. The second race saw Miku drive a
stormer right from the back of the grid into second place - closing
and catching Kevin Clarke who had led from the start. Christian
Dick settled for third in this one to collect second overall. Rob
Fountain finished fourth in the second race and overal after a very
mature drive. Miku's drive in the second race was the highlight
of the weekend. He showed the same superb car control and outright
speed in his first ever saloon car race that we have seen during
his single seater career.
Race one: 1st Kevin Clarke, 2nd Christian Dick, 3rd Peter Falding,
4th Rob Fountain, 5th Warren Kent. DNF: Barry Lee, Miku Santavirta.
Fastest lap: Kevin Clarke
Race two: 1st Kevin Clarke, 2nd Miku Santavirta, 3rd Christian Dick,
4th Rob Fountain, 5th Peter Falding, 6th Warren Kent, 7th Chris
Dawkins, 8th Sohrab Padidar. DNF: Barry Lee. Fastest lap: MIku Santavirta
