Following some exceptional performances
during last season's European Formula Palmer Audi Series, talented
24 year old Finnish racer, Miku Santavirta from Helsinki, has been
signed by Team Brask Management.
As part of Miku's initial involvement
with Team Brask Management, Miku will be racing one of Team Brask's
550 bhp V-Sports Racing (VSR) V8 Saloon Cars for the new 13 round
race series, which kicks off at Brands Hatch on April 1st,
2001.
After four seasons in open wheeler's,
Miku is keen to gain some experience and discipline and believes
the VSR cars will provide some useful experience for other touring
car, and when possible sports car, outings during the coming season.
Following a promising career
on skis, as a member of the Finnish Junior National Ski Team, Miku
started his motorsport career in karting in the Junior class, progressing
through the ranks to the top of World Karting. In 1994, he narrowly
missed victory in the Formula Super A World Championship in Argentina,
driving for the factory IAME team, eventually finishing a close
second to winner Alessandro Manelti.
Miku's career in cars has been
budget limited, but his performances in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship
in 1998 and two races in the British Formula 3 Championship in 1999
with Alan Docking Racing, allowed him to demonstrate his skills.
Miku's season in European Formula
Palmer Audi in 2000 was plagued with mechanical problems, but he
turned in some exceptional drives to take a number of podium finishes.
A delighted Miku said, "I am
very pleased to have the opportunity to join Team Brask Management
and believe this new association could make a big difference to
my future career. I am looking forward to driving the big and powerful
VSR V8, they should be a lot of fun. I really believe it will be
the start of a very good relationship".
Lars-Christian Brask said, "Miku
had a very difficult season last year, but showed tremendous car
control and tenacity. I believe there is a lot we can achieve together."
